Review: Nosferatu: a Symphony of Horror

Tess Said So
St Vincent’s (Venue 197) until Aug 22th
2 Stars (2 / 5)

Nosferatu is F.W. Murnau’s glorious piece of cinema and horror history – the likes of which, creatives would jump at the chance to bring to life with their own flare in a live re-imagining; especially in such a Gothic and inspiring setting.

Unfortunately, Australian duo – Tess Said So do not do this opportunity justice. Their original composition is repetitive, underwhelming and almost unrelated to the action on the screen. Contemporary keyboard and some interesting percussion instruments have the potential to make magic happen, however – missed cues, over-use of a mediocre theme and a dodgy set of speakers made for a deeply disappointing Dracula.
